Kenny Chesney performed in Wildwood, NJ, last week and you didn’t have to attend the concert to see it! According to a recent Mashable article, Chesney opted to have this concert streaming live with the help of American Express for their Unstaged concert series. This gave viewers the chance to sign up and see this concert live from their comfort of their own home (amazing).

AMEX tweeted prior and during Chesney’s performance, to inform its followers of this great, and free, opportunity. When the concert was winding down, AMEX monitored the Twitter fan participation for concert-related activity and since there was an immense amount, they jumped on the opportunity to offer followers the chance to tweet with hashtag #AmexUNSTAGED to unlock an encore song. Afterwards, Chesney announced on stage that there was so much Twitter activity with this hashtag that they decided they’d play one more song for the in-person and computer-viewing crowd.

This streaming concert opportunity gives musicians a chance to perform for their fans that can’t travel or generally watch them from YouTube or Vevo anyways. It seems the reason this streaming opportunity was so successful was AMEX’s Twitter campaign and activity.

AMEX utilized Twitter to the maximum for this, and even handed out concert tickets prior to the event to people who tweeted they needed them and were in a relatively close distance. Five years ago, this type of activity on Twitter didn’t exist, but it is crazy to see how interactive and engaging this social media tool is becoming.
