Last Minute Tax Advice
Today is the infamous Tax Day, and if you’re like me, you’ve just made yourself a double cappuccino to combat the effects of a late night similar to college. (Ok… so now that I’m getting “old,” a late night is just shy of midnight.)
The Forbes daily tech newsletter was one of the first emails in my inbox this morning, and (of course) as soon as I open it, starring me in the face is the article Timely Help for Tax Procrastinators. This probably would have been helpful for me last night, but for all of you other tax procrastinators, this article is great for questions relating to the following:
- Is e-filing at the last minute risky?
- What if you can’t finish your 1040 on time?
- What if you can’t pay on time?
- Are there any exceptions to the April 15 deadline?

Good luck!

I was not a tax procrastinator this year. I was a good boy and filed mine early (and blew all the money from my return just as quickly. Well, I did put some in my IRA).
However, for those on the brink of a nervous breakdown, or suffering from the onset of a caffeine overdoes as you toil away, fear not! At least not if you are a resident of Massachusetts.
Due to the flooding in March in the Bay State, the IRS has postponed “until May 11 certain deadlines for taxpayers who reside or have a business in the disaster area. This includes the April 15 deadline for filing 2009 individual income tax returns, making income tax payments and making 2009 contributions to an individual retirement account (IRA).” The full press release detailing the postponement can be found on the IRS.gov website here: http://www.irs.gov/newsroom/article/0,,id=220830,00.html
Carry on procrastinating!
