More PR Disasters of the Decade

In the theme of wrapping up the year, The Buiness Insider recently posted the 15 Biggest PR Disasters of the Decade.  In chronological order, they listed:

  • Bridgestone tire debacle (2000)
  • Philip Morris says smoking deaths have “positive effects” (2001)
  • Thongs for little girls and racist t-shirts: double bad move, Abercrombie & Fitch (2002)
  • Urban Outfitters sells racist board game(Ghettopoly) (2003)
  • Merck recalls Vioxx (2004)
  • Janet Jackson’s controversial “wardrobe malfunction”
  • ABC’s Locker-Room Scene (2005)
  • The News Corp./OJ Affair: PR Most Foul (2006)
  • Cartoon Network ad campaign causes Boston bomb scare (2007)
  • JetBlue traps passengers on the runway for hours (2007)
  • Automaker CEOs take private jets to D.C… then ask for bailout (2008)
  • AIG gets bailed out… then hosts $443,300 corporate retreat (2008)
  • KFC’s chicken coupon riots (2009)
  • Domino’s YouTube scandal (2009)
  • DOD thinks that low-flying planes over Manhattan are a good idea (2009)

But they seem to have forgotten a few that come right to mind:

  • Catholic Church sex abuse scandal (2001)
  • Michael Jackson dangles his baby over a balcony (2002)
  • Rush Limbaugh’s painkiller addiction becomes public (2003)
  • MLB has several players admit to steroid use (2004)
  • Tom Cruise jumps on Oprah’s sofa /FEMA’s role in Hurricane Katrina (2005)
  • Michael Richardson (Kramer) goes on racist tirade at LA’s Laugh Factory (2006)
  • Marion Jones admits to doping (2007)
  • Sarah Palin fails to name any newspapers she reads when asked by Katie Couric (2008)
  • Tiger Woods’ transgressions (2009)

It’s interesting to see who has and hasn’t recovered from their mistakes.  Do you think there are any missing from the list?
