Blackberry or iPhone?

blackberry vs iphone

As I was perusing the Metro on my daily commute this morning, I started reading an interesting piece about the iPhone/ Blackberry rivalry.  Boston was ranked as the nation’s fifth most wired city this year by Forbes, so Bean Town is as good a place as any to get a feel for how people perceive these dueling devices.

Metro spoke to Lisa Dilg, a 42-year-old Boston Blackberry user, about her views.  “I’m traveling and sitting here IMing, texting, e-mailing and calling clients and co-workers,” she said.  “The iPhone seems more like a toy.”

According to the Metro article this morning, The Nielsen Company found that smartphone users are more than two times as likely to have them for business-use only.  Nielsen also found that more people between ages 18 and 34 bought iPhones than all other smart phones combined.

Now, bear in mind that I have neither a Blackberry nor an iPhone.  But, in my opinion, the iPhone is far more appealing.  My friends who have caved and bought one  seem to enjoy it.  Even my father, a die-hard cell phone resister (in his own words: “I don’t want people knowing where I am”) bought one.  It’s an appealing device, no question about it.  The huge variety of apps and the ease of use give it a big “wow” factor, at least in my mind…and clearly in the minds of many others.

I also haven’t heard any negative associations with the iPhone’s  addictive nature, the way I have with the “Crackberry.”  I had a conversation with Grandma a while back, and she gave me her thoughts about “those Blueberry users” and how they “aren’t right in the head.”  Of course, Grandma doesn’t know the difference between a CD and a DVD (it’s true, she told me) so if you are a Blackberry lover, I certainly wouldn’t worry.  At the end of the day, the competition between the devices will probably end up just creating better, cooler devices, right?  And eventually, even the resisters like me will have to break down and get one.

Spread the word...
