Koogle It!!

While glancing at the Metro during my morning commute this week I noticed an interesting little news summary, courtesy of Reuters.

Orthodox Jews in Israel recently launched a kosher search engine called “Koogle,”  a name that comes from a mix of “Google” and a Jewish noodle pudding dish.  The website meets the strict standards of Orthodox rabbis by prohibiting access to sexually explicit material and other religiously objectionable pages.

“Its links to Israeli news and shopping sites also filter out items most ultra-Orthodox Israelis are forbidden by rabbis to have in their homes, such as television sets….The site was developed in part at the encouragement of rabbis who sought a solution to the needs of ultra-Orthodox Jews to browse the Web particularly for vital services…”

Of course nothing can be posted on the Jewish Sabbath.  Don’t even try it… the site will get stuck!

I wonder if my “koogle search” for pork recipes will yield any results.
